NDSM

NDSM is one of Amsterdam's most iconic creative areas. A former shipyard on the north bank of the IJ that has grown into a vibrant hub for culture, events, studios and nightlife. It's a place where creativity and community have always gone hand in hand, and one I've always had a soft spot for as someone who grew up in this city.
Challenge
NDSM already had a website, but it had grown complex over the years and was ready for a fundamental overhaul. The site needed to handle an enormous amount of content: hundreds of articles, dozens of events per year, tickets, venue info and organizational updates. All while remaining fast and affordable to run. The main challenges were:
- Bringing structure and clarity to a sprawling, content-heavy website
- Simplifying the editorial backend without sacrificing flexibility for the NDSM team
- Keeping each page customizable, so content editors could adapt layouts to fit the story they wanted to tell
- Keeping bandwidth low to control hosting costs at scale
- Making it easy for visitors to find what they're looking for, including upcoming events and tickets
Solution
I built the new ndsm.nl in Webflow, in collaboration with Vandejong Creative Agency, who led the design and creative direction.
- Full Webflow rebuild of a large, multi-section website
- Restructured CMS architecture to simplify the editorial workflow for the NDSM team
- Flexible page layouts giving editors real control over how each page looks and feels
- CMS setup for events, art instalations, news, articles and more
- Performance optimization to minimize bandwidth usage and keep operational costs low
- Fully responsive build across all devices
Result
The new NDSM.nl gives visitors a clear, well-organized window into everything happening at one of Amsterdam's most dynamic creative areas. The site handles over 30.000 visitors a month while staying fast and lean. Behind the scenes, the NDSM team now has a backend that is pleasant to work in Structured enough to stay manageable, flexible enough to keep up with a program that never stands still.
Note: Design and creative direction were provided by Vandejong. I was responsible for the Webflow development and CMS implementation.
